| 4-28-00 Well, I have to say that this first try was a BIG learning experience!!! I started on the 12th and nosedived almost right away. Finally got it righted and wond up with 149606.00 @ 49%. Missed the top 100 by 8 lousy % !!!! Next month I'll be there. I'll be concentrating on tech stocks, media and fiberoptics at first then see where it takes me. | 4-13-00 Five of the stocks that I am currently scalping profits from or am watching closely: BUYX,CEGE,MWAR,ROBO,VOXW. Be careful try not to buy into their highs. Watch indicators: bid and ask price along with size bid/ask. I currently have 15 stocks that I am watching. You may see my transactions at standings. I'm in last place so I'm easy to find. Last month I finished 14th with 10 billion and kinda got bored with it so this month I purposely drove my holdings down to 10 thousand in order to make the game more realistic for my on reasons. | 4-12-00 Regarding the question of "How do I make money when the market is in a downswing ?" Fill your portfolio tracker with stocks that tend to swing(up and down several times daily). These stocks tend to have decent volume but not always. Watch them closely and study their patterns. Many have patterns that you can recognize. You will begin to know when to buy low and sell high for small profits on stocks that you become familiar with. It will add up. Also if you click on the stock's quote symbol in your portfolio you will get a quote screen. On this screen pay attention to the "size bid/ask". Usually if there are more bids than asks the stock is set for an upward move. If there are more asks than bids the stock is set for a downward motion. This gage can be tricky if the stock is moving too fast or if it's erratic, but it usually works. Good luck. (this is a way, but good ipo's can make you quick $ if you time it just right) Plumlazy |

Trade strong stocks between 5 and 15 dollars. Find a site with good charts. bigeasyinvestor is a good one. Study strong stocks with pullback opportunities. Put strong stocks in your portfolio and watch them closely while paying attention to the time of day. If you have been watching a stock for several days you may come to know its patterns if it's at a normal low and has an up tick buy it and ride until it downticks or just scalp a profit and move on. Yeah, I get to watch my favorite team play the greatest game on earth and make good money doing so, all while getting into shape. Not bad. So now that I won a month, and drove the FSM staff crazy (sorry), I am retiring from the monthly game. I'll let someone else make the charge in April. I like QCOM, but would buy on the dips, I think it's sorta expensive--also keep the Maalox handy for the big swings. I don't like Cobalt, since it's tied to the car dealerships too much. Car dealerships are some of the flakiest businesses on the planet (I used to work for one). The big swings in the techs seem to be forcing the traditional investors back to older rules and models for investing, many of which peg the tech stocks as way over-priced. Also, too many have played games with reports, accounting, etc. Many of the older stocks look like bargains then. On this last day of the month, the techs will likely buckle to profit-taking, too. The problem is that they try to compete head-to-head with the NFL, which is a marketing juggernaut. I also don't think the pay per view is breaking any new ground. The NBC thing may be a break-through, however, and happened after I posted the last message. I still think WWFE is a flaky purchase, though, as the NBC pact is the only attractive feature about it. After the beating the techs and NASDAQ have been taking, I would put my money in brokerage stocks and "old economy" stocks, such as AT&T, IBM, Proctor & Gamble, etc (examples only). I think we are seeing a fundamental shift away from the insane gains of the tech stocks, and long-term holdings and patience in more traditional sectors will be the better investments. --pacman |
